Jan. 26, 2012 Jr. High 7th Grade Tourney Set Junior high boys seventh-grade basketball teams from around Northern California will flock to the foothills area this weekend for the annual Warrior Classic hosted by Weimar Hills Middle School. A total of 16 teams will be playing games Friday and Saturday at two gyms – Sierra Hills School in Meadow Vista and Colfax Elementary School in Colfax – with non-stop action that begins Friday evening and runs all day Saturday, culminating with the championship game set for 5:15 p.m. First-round games on Friday at Colfax Elementary feature the Colfax Bulldogs meeting Seven Hills from Nevada City at 4:10 p.m. That game will be followed at 5:20 p.m. by Lyman Gilmore of Grass Valley tangling with E.V. Cain of Auburn. The 6:30 p.m. game at Colfax on Friday will pair Forest Lake Christian versus Foresthill, followed by the nightcap at 7:40 p.m. matching Konocti of Lower Lake against Magnolia. At Sierra Hills School in Meadow Vista, action tips off at 4:10 p.m. with the host Weimar Hills Warriors taking on Maria Montessori Charter of Rocklin. Other first-round pairings at Sierra Hills have Placer Elementary of Loomis playing Riverbend of Yuba City at 5:20 p.m., Barrett of Carmichael meeting Newcastle at 6:30 p.m., and terrace of Lakeport vying opposite Loomis at 7:40 p.m. In recent Weimar Hills action: Weimar Hills 7th 41, Magnolia 25 – The Warriors improved their season record to 10-4 with the home win over the Rattlers. Mason Hurst led the victory by scoring 19 points, while Austin Weir added 10 and Will Biles chipped in with eight. Dallen Trentman grabbed nine rebounds for the Warriors, while Coleman Young chipped in with a good floor game. Weimar Hills 7th 40 Lyman Gilmore 29 - A stout Weimar Hills defense limited Gilmore to just 16 points through the first three quarters in handing the Bombers their first league loss. Mason Hurst with 17 points, 10 by Austin Weir and nine by Dallen Trentman led the Warriors.
