9-10 All Star Tourney Opens Today at Tri-City

District 11 All-Star tournament action for 9-10-year-olds gets underway today at Tri-City Little League Park located on Third Street in Rocklin.

The Tri-City All-Star site will be the combined host of all District 11 teams after the Area II Foresthill site was forced to relinquish its games because of its recreation park field being used as a command post for crews battling forest fires in the area.

The 10-team double elimination tournament will run from July 1 through the District 11 championship games of July 12 and July 13. The playing of the entire district tournament at one site instead of at separate Area I and II fields will now give teams more time off between games.

“It could work out better for teams in the long run,” said Grass Valley 9-10 manager Craig Fleenor. “It actually allows you to get more practice time in with your kids.”

Today’s first game at 5 p.m. matches Sierra Foothills of Colfax and Penn Valley while the nightcap pairs Bear River and Nevada City at 7:30 p.m.

Foresthill and Grass Valley will then collide Wednesday at 5 p.m. followed by Rocklin versus Auburn at 7:30 p.m.

The tournament will then continue with winner’s bracket games on Thursday July 3 before teams will be idle on July 4. The tournament then continues on Sunday, July 6
