May 5, 2010 Bear River Dodgers Extend Win Skein The Bear River Dodgers continued to cruise in District 11 inter-lock action as the BRLL leaders traveled to Nevada City to face the NC Giants and left Pioneer Park with a 10-0 majors division baseball win. Dodger David O'Brien set the stage for the first game on the first at bat for the Dodgers as he hit a rocket down the left field line for an in the park home-run. Justin Stratton then walked and Tony Bianchi singled to give the Dodgers a 2-0 lead. Ryan Wagner went to the mound for the Dodgers and struck out 2 Giants and created a foul pop up that catcher Shane Anderson was able to glove. The second inning then brought another two runs for the Dodgers as a lead off walk by Anderson was turned into a run after Justin Dooley drove a pitch between 1st and second for a RBI single. Dallas Penn then had an RBI to score Dooley. Wagner returned to the mound inthe bottom of the second to face 4 batters allowing just one hit but assisting in 2 of the 3 outs to shut the Giants down and the Dodgers held their lead at 4-0. Penn followed on the hill in the 3rd for the Dodgers and allowed a lead off hit but quickly shut the door by fanning the next three batters. The Dodgers followed that by bringing out the bats in the third as OBrien, Stratton, Anderson, and Wagner all had singles. Caden McGowen and Penn both contributed doubles and Dodgers were able to put six tallies. In the fourth, Mathew Chapdelaine was handed the ball for the Dodgers in a closing effort where he allowed one hit but was able to keep the ball in the infield where the Dodgers turned a double play and then and infield grounder ended the inning giving the Dodgers their fourth shut out of the year. The Dodgers will try and stretch its unbeaten season when they play Saturday at 9 a.m. at the Bear River Sports Complex against the Bear River Cardinals. Bear River Dodgers 5 Bear River Rockies 0 - The Affordable Real Estate Dodgers faced the Bear River Rockies last Saturday to determine who took command of the Bear River Little League Major Division standings. The Dodgers entered this game only held a one game lead over the Rockies in division play. In the two teams’ first meeting, the Dodgers posted a tight 2-0 win. Dodgers pitcher Caden McGowen, who had no-hit the Rockies in the first meeting of the season, continued where he left off from the first game by shutting down the Rockies’ first three batters all by strike out. The Dodgers then jumped ahead in the bottom of the first inning with hits from David O'Brien, Justus Stratton, McGowen and Ryan Wagner putting 2 runs on the board. McGowen gave up his first hit of the game in the second inning as Lopez hit a hard single between 2nd and 1st base but that would be the only hit McGowen would allow in the first 3 innings. The Dodgers added another run in the 2nd as Dooley was able to score on a past ball to extend the Dodgers lead 3-0. In the bottom of the 3rd the Rockies brought Bear Belding to the mound in attempt to slow down the bats of the Dodgers but Stratton added his second hit of the game and Tony Bianchi followed up with a double off the center field fence to give the Dodgers a 4-0 lead. The fourth inning brought four Rockies to the plate but McGowen remained strong and added defense of his own, throwing out a buntattempt. With 2 outs in the 4th, Jacob Cross had a solid hit up the middle but was left stranded and the 4th inning became complete. McGowen stayed on the mound the final two innings only allowing a hit by Justin "Shorty" Pitts in the 6th. The Dodgers then added a final run in the 5th as Stratton added another RBI single scoring O'Brien to solidify a victory for the Dodgers. Strong defensive play came from the Dodgers Mathew Chapdelaine, Dallas Penn, Justin Dooley, Stratton and McGowen to hold the Rockies in check. McGowen allowed 3 hits on the day with 11 K's, no walks while facing 21 batters. The Dodgers sent 26 batters to the plate and put the ball in play 21 of those times. Leading bats for the Dodgers were Stratton 3X3 2RBI's, Keaton"Hollywood" Kirby 2X2 with a double, McGowen, OBrien, Bianchi, and Wagner all added hits. Bear River Dodgers 17 Bear River Cardinals 5 - The Dodgers earlier had picked up a 17-5 win vs. the Bear River Cards. Tony Bianchi went 4x4 to lead the win while Justus Stratton was 3X3, Caden McGowen 3X4, Ryan Wagner 2X3, David O'Brien 2X4, and Justin Dooley 2X4.
