Penn, Bianchi Team For No-Hitter

The Bear River Affordable Real Estate Loans Dodgers squared off vs. the Bear River Cardinals last Saturday morning at the Bear River Sports Complex.

The Cardinals had been the one team this season that had done the most damage to a highly touted Dodgers; pitching staff  by scoring seven runs in a Dodgers 19-7 victory the first time the two teams met.

However, last Saturday Dodgers pitchers Dallas Penn and Tony Bianchi had another plan.

The Dodgers sent nine men to the plate in their half of the first inning and put  five  runs on the board with Penn also helping himself with a RBI rip. Penn started the game on the mound for the Dodgers putting down the first three batters of the Cardinals using two K’s.

In the second,  the Cards sent five  men to the plate but Penn’s pitching prevailed by striking out another two batters and the Dodgers had added another run to make the game 6-0 at the end of two frames.

The Cardinals answered by sitting down the first three Dodger batters they faced using defense as their tool of choice in the third. Penn then faced 3 batters in the third and sent them all packing by striking out the side. In the fourth, the Dodgers paraded eight batters to the plate scoring five runs as Bianchi had an RBI hit to give himself some leverage as he would be the selected closer finishing the fourth.

Bianchi then took the mound in the bottom of the fourth and allowed a lead off walk to the Cardinals but then took matters into his own hands and set the next 3 batters down 1-2-3 all by strike out ending the game 11-0 giving the Dodgers their 11th straight win and their 3rd no hitter through what completed the first half of the season.

Penn and Bianchi combined for 10 strike outs and 3 walks on the day. Bear River Dodgers face a highly touted Grass Valley Giants squad on Friday.
