Bear River 9-10s await title game foe

The Bear River 9-10-year-old Little League All-Stars have put themselves into an advantageous position in the District 11 Area II All-Star tournament being played in Foresthill.

Thanks to some heavy hitting and excellent pitching, the BRLL 9-10s have won their first three games in impressive fashion and have earned a date in Friday’s championship game starting at 5:30 p.m.

Bear River will meet the winner of Thursday night’s loser’s bracket finals between Foresthill and Nevada City.  A Bear River win will advance the team to the District 11 championship series against the Area I winner while a loss would force a second championship game on Saturday also at 5:30 p.m.

The District 11 championship series – with all games slated for Foresthill – will begin on Sunday, July 15. The Area I title was also being decided

this week in Auburn with Rocklin and Tri-City battling it out for honors.

In their latest conquest, the BRLL squad put a 13-1 blitz on the host Foresthill squad. The win was the third straight game that Bear River had hung a “10 spot” on its opponents in the first inning.

The key hit for Bear River in its blasting of Foresthill was a grand slam home run by Bear Belding. Matt Lopez also delivered a round tripper for the victors.

The big offensive night backed up steady pitching by the trio of Tyler Toft, Kyle Soria and Cole Huckaby who teamed to keep Foresthill’s bats in check.

Nevada City 8 Newcastle 6 – Nevada City won its second straight game to advance to tonight’s 5:30 p.m. loser’s bracket finals game against host Foresthill.

A near five and one-third route going pitching effort by Jordan Jiannino keyed the Nevada City win.

Nevada City, which eliminated Penn Valley 11-1 on Monday night, received a 4x4 game from Shawn Jordan and big doubles by Dylan McClure and Joey Souza.

J.C. Atkinson, Vann Scott and Max Mann also hit safely in the game for Nevada City.
