April 29, 2009 Bear River Astros Keep Rollin’; Improve to 9-0 The Bear River Astros are the early season pacesetters in District 11 Little League play throughout Western Nevada County. Winners of nine straight games, the Astros broke open a tight game on Monday against the Bear River Diamondbacks by scoring six times in the second inning to get on their way to an eventual 17-1 win. The Astros collected 16 base hits on the night and played turned in a fine defensive effort to back up their solid pitching. Kyle Soria pitched 4 innings to pick up the win as he allowed just three hits and fanned four. Robbie Hildrebrand and Bear Belding pitched the final two innings for the Astros giving up 3 hits and striking out 3. On offense, Matt Lopez,Kyle Soria and Tyler Toft each delivered three hits apiece with Soria and Lopez both rocketing two-run homers. Brett Soloman and Hildebrand each had two hits to add more punch to the Astros attack. In earlier Astros action, the team used three hurlers to combine on a no-hitter over the Nevada City Yankees. Tyler Toft, Robbie Hildrebrand and Kyle Soria combined for nine strikeouts in the win and along the way allowed just two walks.The game was close for the first four innings with the Astros up just 2-0 before the winners plated four runners in the 5th inning to make it 6-0.
The Astros scored early and scored in each inning of the game as they posted 16 hits on the day. The Astros scored 4 runs in the first inning capped when Donald Brennan hit a 2-run home run.
