March 24, 2009 Bear River D-Backs Break Open Close Game For Win Taking advantage of a nine-run fifth inning, the Bear River Diamondbacks broke open a close game Monday night to get on their way to an eventual 13-1 win over the Bear River A’s in major division Little League action at Bear River. Keyed by timely hits and capitalizing on bases on balls, the D-Backs pulled away from a 4-1 lead with their big nine-run outburst. Providing the big hits for the winners included Nick Mansuetti who was 2x4 with a triple, Travis Whitehead who went 2x3 with a double and Cole Huckaby who also tripled. Meanwhile, delivering the key blows at the plate for the A’s were Luke Burtt who was 2x2 and Sean Mikan and Nick O’Conner who both added one rap each. Huckaby, Whitehead and Martin Vigil combined on the mound to limit the A’s to just four hits. Vigil fanned four and pitched shutout ball in three innings of work. Dayton Anderson of the A’s allowed three runs on three hits and fanned five. |
