Bear River Majors Too Much For PV; Win Area Title

The beat went on Thursday night at Pioneer Park in Nevada City for the Bear River Major division All-Stars.

In another show of area dominance, the Bear River majors made it look easy by breaking open a scoreless game to pound out a 7-0 win over a game but outgunned Penn Valley team in the Area II finals of the District 11 All-Star Tournament.

The win, Bear River’s third straight in Area II competition, now advances the squad to the District 11 championship series. Game One will be played in Lincoln on Sunday at 7 p.m.

Rocklin and Tri-City are playing this evening in Lincoln to settle Area I honors. Rocklin is undefeated and can seal its Area crown tonight while Tri-City needs a win to force an “if necessary” game on Saturday.

In Thursday’s game, Bear River broke open a scoreless game in the third when Jake Sypnicki’s RBI single was followed by a two-run home run blast from Andrew Reiss.

After that Reiss took the game over from the pitching mound as he hurled a complete game two-hitter spiced by 11 strikeouts.

Steven Ertola added more fuel to the Bear River attack by adding a pair of hits while Sypnicki’s also paired raps with a double.

On defense, Brodie Beck made a pair of outstanding plays.
