Bruin JVs Win Again
With the Bear River JV defense covering the ball after a blocked punt, Bruin Kris Edie(14) makes the signal that it's Bruins ballin action from last Friday night's non-league football game with Proctor Hug. The Bear River JVs improved to 2-0 with a resounding 48-6 win over the visitors from Reno. Big grid wins for area JV squads Foothill area JV and frosh football squads rode into week two of the young season with high hopes for success and for the most partseveral squads checked in with strong showings. Here's a recap of last week's JV and Frosh grid action: JV Del Oro JV 31 Westlake 21 - In a battle of intersectional schools, Del Oro used strong running from fullback Dylan Kainrath and tough defensive work by Brandon Johnson, Santino Garcia and Jonah Mekebri to help the Golden Eagles rally past the perennially strong CIF Southern Section visitors from Ventura County. Del Oro,now 2-0 on the season, trailed in the game 14-10 at halftime and 21-17 at he end of three quarters before taking contol of the contest with a strong fourth quarter effort. The Golden Eagles face another tough foe Friday when they host Clovis West at 5:15 p.m. Nevada Union JV 26 Ponderosa 6 - Jake Berger scored a pair of touchdowns and rushed for 143 yards and Gareth Noxon and Jason Murray each added a score to help lift the Miners to a big win over the visiting Bruins. The Miners, now 1-1on the season, were tied at halftime with the Bruins at 6-6. However, in the second half, the Miners picked up the pace to take control of the issue. Standouts on defense for NU included Chase Federmeyer, Brandon Ennis, Sam Hayward, DylanMcClure and Murray. Noxon, McClure and Jimmy Klauer all were credited with sacks. The Miners host Monterey Trail Friday at 5:15p.m. Bear River JV 48 Hug 6 - The visitors from Reno didn't put upmuch of a fight in being dominated by the Bruins at Lake of the Pines. Bear River, now winners in 23 straight JV games dating back to the 2008 season, host Golden Sierra Friday at 5:30 p.m. Colfax JV Hosts D-Backs - Colfax's JV team, 1-0 on the season, jumps back into action Friday by hosting the Union Mine Diamondbacks at Marson Stadium starting at 5:30 p.m. Colfa had a "bye" on its slate last week. Grant JVs 20 Placer 0 - The Hillmen fell to 0-2 with the loss to the Pacers. Placer has a "bye" this week while the school varsity team takes on a squad from Alaska. Frosh Colfax 29 Inderkum 22 - Colfax quarterback Logan Hurst scrambled in for a touchdown on a fourth down with less than three minutes to play to help lift the Falcons to the thrilling win over the visiting Tigers from Sacramento. The Falcons, who trailed in the game 14-0 and 22-14, received big defensive games from Jeromy Cabodi, Dylan Strader, Sam Lahie and Brian Little. Colfax, 2-0, hosts Union Mine Thursday at 5:30 p.m. Nevada Union 35 Ponderosa 6 - Fullback Mo Nieves tallied four touchdowns as the Miners throttled the Bruins. Josh Belendez and Joe Ten Eyck led the defense while teaming up for a safety. Travis Owens also returned a kickoff 70 yards for another NU touchdown. The Miners, 1-1, are idle this week. Hug 26 Bear River 0 - The visiting Hawks from Reno had too much speed for the Bruins who fellto 1-1. Bear River entertains El Camino Thursday at 5:30 p.m. Westlake 51 Del Oro 0 - A big and fast Westlake frosh team overwhelemed the Eagles(0-2).
