Lyman Gilmore Clips WH, 42-38
Still flying high after winning a weekend tournament, the Gilmore Bombers picked up a big Nevada County Athletic League boys basketball 8th grade win Monday afternoon. Playing in the comfy confines of its Bomber Gymnasium, Gilmore used a fourth quarter rally to push past Weimar Hills, 42-38, and in the process pull into a tie for second place with Weimar and Pleasant Valley after one round of league play. All three teams now have 4-2 records and trail league leading Seven Hills (5-1). In a low-scoring first half where defense prevailed, the Bombers led 5-4 after a quarter and 11-10 at the break. However, Weimar, behind a pair of Taylor Dorsey treys and five points from Devon Loomis, built a 27-23 lead in the final 10 seconds of the third but the cushion was cut into when Gilmore’s Ian Davis buried a trey just across the half-court line to make it a one point game going into the final stanza. In the fourth quarter, the two teams traded blows but Gilmore made the most of 11 free throw attempts by netting seven to provide the difference. On the night the Bombers were 12 of 21 from the line while Weimar was 0 for 6. Trevor Bryant’s 16 points including seven in the fourth quarter led Gilmore while Davis added 12 with six coming in the last canto. Brandon Dellis was also a factor for the winners as his points through the first three quarters kept the Bombers close. He finished with 11 points and also snared 10 rebounds. Will Buell’s 11 points, 10 from Ryan Glazner and six by Dorsey topped Weimar Hills who is now 16-4 overall on the season.
