Nevada Union frosh running back Mo Nieves is off and running for a long touchdown against Chico High last Saturday. The Miners improved to 3-0 with a 25-14 win.

Golden Eagles JVs Rout Oak RidgeNU Frosh Top Chico

Using another one of their patented quick starts to build a big lead, the Del Oro JV football squad made it four straight wins on the season by throttling visiting Oak Ridge, 42-10, last Friday night at Eagle Stadium.

Following the same method of operation that they have used in all four of their victories this seaosn, coach Jerry Van Lengen’s troops scored three touchdowns in the last seven minutes of the second quarter on their way to building a big 28-3 lead by halftime.Johnathon Tuttle got the scoring going by capping a dfirst quarter drive with a five-yard touchdown run. Mason Hume’s extra point boot made the score 7-0 Golden Eagles.

Following an Oak Ridge field goal, the Golden Eagles put together another nice march that culminated when quarterback Michael Moore scooped up a teammate’s fumble near the goal line and ran it in for six points. Humes’ second point after kick made it, 14-3, DO.Del Oro’s defense then came alive as after solid efforts via Brendan Johnson and a sack by Dylan Kainrath, the Golden Eagles stopped an Oak Ridge drive when Jahann Nargussi “stripped” a Trojan ball carrier of the ball and returned the fumble 63-yards for a touchdown and a 21-3 Golden Eagles lead.Van Lengen then called for an on sides kick and Del Oro caught the Trojan napping as Daniel Becker recovered  near mid-field.

With the first half clock winding down, the Golden Eagles engineered a nice drive that was capped when Moore found Nargussi on an 8-yard scoring play. Humes’ fourth extra point boot made the score, 28-3, Del Oro at the break.Del Oro kept up its fine play in the third quarter as Nargussi bulled over from a yard away to cap a drive and make the score, 35-3. In the fourth quarter, a nice run by Duncan Small was the key play in a drive that was capped by a 33-yard touchdown run by Shane Peterson.

Nevada Union 33 Chico 26 – NU put together a late drive that snapped a 26-26 tie. The game winning score came with less than 1:30 to play on a 13-yard touchdown pass from Michael Tapia to Gareth Noxon.

The winning drive was highlighted by a 3-yard run by Jake Berger on fourth down that kept the Miners alive. Berger finished with 130 yards rushing and scored two touchdowns.

Jason Murray led the team with 167 yards of offense and a touchdown. He also had 11 tackles on defense. Elliot Roberts added a 37-yard fumble recovery for a touchdown.

Casa Roble 43 Placer 27 – Todd Valliere and Logan Strange each scored a pair of touchdowns for the Hillmen who fell to 0-3. Placer hosts Woodland Friday night at 5:30 p.m.

Inderkum 14 Colfax 7 – In a game that was played Thursday night, Colfax (3-1) couldn’t generate any second half sustained drives in the loss to the athletic Tigers.

Bear River 23 Woodcreek 21 – Brad Botsford rushed for 112 yards to lead the undefeated Bruins (4-0) to the tight win.

Frosh

Nevada Union 25 Chico 14 – Mo Nieves tallied a pair of touchdowns and rushed for over 100 yards as the Miners improved to 3-0 with the road win over Chico.Travis Owens added another score for the Miners while Jordan Hodgkins added another score on a one-yard plunge. Tight end Brock Grininger snagged two passes totaling 80 yards.NU plays at Yuba City Thursday.

Casa Roble 40 Placer 13 – The Hillmen were able to move the ball on the ground but couldn’t penetrate the goal line enough in the road setback to the Rams.Placer, 1-2 on the season, received 95 yards rushing on 16 carries from Ryan Gray, 76 yards via 10 carries from Logan Markstein and 60 yards on 12 carries by Cole Blackwell.

Oak Ridge 17 Del Oro 6 – Dustin Edwards scored Del Oro’s lone touchdown on a six-yard run. Tanner Robison and Jacob Tarabetz had good defensive games for the Golden Eagles who play at Oakmont Thursday.

Bear River 25 Woodcreek 20 – Bear River outscored the visiting Timberwolves for the win. The Bruins host River Valley of Yuba City Thursday.
