July 3, 2008Bear River 11’s Roll To Easy All-Star Opening WinBear River 11-year-old All-Star manager Randy Anderson and his coaching staff made team defense a priority in its pre-tournament practices and Wednesday night at Penn Valley it paid off. Getting a solid performance with their gloves in the field, the Bear River All-Stars used its defense as a springboard to a 12-0 District 11 first round win over Newcastle. “We really concentrated a lot in our practices on defense,” said Anderson and tonight we saw a real solid performance by our whole team.” The fine defense made things easy for Bear River pitchers Brett Solomon, Kyle Soria and Dayton Anderson who combined to allow Newcastle just two hits while racking up five strikeouts. On offense, Bear River was sparked by Dayton Anderson who was a perfect 3x3 at the plate with a double and three runs batted in. Meanwhile, Soria also collected a 3x3 night with a pair if RBIs while Nick O’Conner added a double and a RBI and Michael Scudero contributed a two-run triple. Also hitting safely for Bear River were Derek Adelman, Travis Whitehead and Nick Mansuetti. Bear River now moves into Saturday’s 2:30 winner’s bracket game against Sierra Foothills of Colfax. |
