Eagles Bop Magnolia; PV Stymies Bombers

Mt. St. Mary’s and Pleasant Valley both came up winners Tuesday afternoon in Nevada County Athletic League flag football action.

At Magnolia, the high flying Eagles from Mt. St. Mary’s played what coach Johhnny Gallagher termed “Our best game of the year” after the Blue and Gold handed the Rattlers a 48-12 drubbing.

A hard charging MSM defense was keyed by Michael Buonarati’s eight flag pulls kept the Rattlers in check throughout the contest. Gallagher noted that the entire Eagles secondary played a heads up game.

Offensively for the winners, Ben Anderson scored three touchdowns while Ben Kaput added two more.

St. Mary’s figures to be tested on Thursday when they travel to Lake Wildwood for a 4 p.m. game against Pleasant Valley.

Pleasant Valley 14 LymanGilmore 6 – In a rugged defensive battle, Pleasant Valley’s Vikings scored a pair of first half touchdowns and then turned the rest over to their defense in handcuffing the Bombers.

PV broke the scoring ice in the second quarter when quarterback Brandon Fouse found Jakob Freele on a 15-yard scoring aerial. Fouse then tossed a two-point conversion pass to tight end Nolan Stefani.

With time running down in the first half, Pleasant Valley upped its lead to 9-0 when wide receiver James Ramirez brought around a reverse from nine-yards away for another score.

After a scoreless third canto, the Bombers finally broke through for their lone score of the day before the Vikings were able to regroup and run out the play clock.

Leading the defense for the winners was Ryley Berzins with four flag pulls and Andrew Hedger, Will Sumner, Jakob Freele and Freddy Williams all with three pulls apiece.
