Extra Inning Win For Penn Valley Dodgers

The Penn Valley Dodgers won their second extra inning game of the season against the Bear River Pirates 6-5.

The Pirates scored two in the first on Nick Mansuetti single and some defensive errors. The Dodgers then tied the score in their half on a pair of walks and a single by Dalton Maxwell.

In the third, the Pirates added two runs and then pushed over one more in the fourth  to extend their lead to 5-2. However, in the Dodgers 4th, Maxwell led off with a double followed by a single by Edwin Dardon. Both runners eventually scored, closing the gap to 5-4.

Trailing 5-4 in the last inning with only two outs to go, Maxwell kept the Dodgers’ hopes alive by doubling to left center. Dardon then followed with a ground out moving the runner to third. On a wild pitch, Maxwell slid home under the tag by Pirate pitcher Mansuetti to tie the game.

Steve “Flash” McClenthen then worked a walk to start the Dodgers in the  7th inning. After the next pitch, McClenthen surprised the pitcher by stealing second while he had the ball. McClenthen then stole third and can home on the over throw with the winning run.

Ben Grayson made a sensational catch in right field to save a run, along with two other catches.

Starting pitcher Clayton Sorensen went 2 innings with 2 strikeouts allowing 2 runs. Joseph Ten Eyck, 1 inning, 1 strikeout, 2 runs. Dalton Maxwell went 4 innings, 2 strikeouts and 1 run with 39 pitches for the win.
