Sept. 4, 2008 FLC, Weimar Hills, Magnolia notch 8th Grade Girls Wins The Nevada County Athletic League girls basketball season tipped off Thursday afternoon with some well-played games highlighting the action. In 8th grade games, all three visiting schools went on the road and notched wins. In Nevada City, Forest Lake Christian handled Seven Hills,35-22. Meanwhile, visitor Magnolia stopped Gilmore, 59-8 and Weimar Hills handed host Union Hill a 32-25 setback. The 7th grade results from Thursday had Forest Lake nipping Seven Hills in overtime, 16-14; Magnolia topping Gilmore, 29-19 and Union Hill upending Weimar Hills, 33-18. Here’s a look at Thursday’s action: Forest Lake 35 Seven Hills 22 – Jenna Oberg tossed in 17 points and Ally English added six as the Lady Falcons led from start to finish. In the 7th grade overtime win for FLC, Christian Blair’s eight points and four from Sara Ponce paced the Lady Falcons to the two-point win. Weimar Hills 32 Union Hill 25 – The Lady Warriors received balanced scoring in their road decision over the Bearcats. Katie Thomass’ nine points, seven from Cassie Harrison and six via Kelly Harris topped Weimar’s offense. Union Hill was led by Bailey Voss’ nine markers. In the 7th grade win, Union Hill’s Erin Selleck sank 12 points. Lindsey Biles led Weimar with seven. Magnolia 59 Gilmore 8 – The Lady Rattlers showed plenty of offense in their win as Sarah Hagar and Sara Schell each tallied 18 points. Also playing well was Arianna Jensen who netted six points. Magnolia’s 7th grade team also clicked well on offense and defense. According to coach Lara Byers, point guard Lauren Runte had a strong game while center Teryn Rath grabbed several rebounds and Kaitlyn Reina played strong defense. |
