Feb. 11, 2010 Bombers, Falcons In Tight Battles Close is the only word that can be used to describe Wednesday's Nevada County Athletic League boys basketball doubleheader played between Gilmore and Forest Lake in the Falcons' gym at Lake of the Pines. In a thrilling 8th grade game, Forest Lake trailed for most of the game before rallying in the late going for a 45-44 win over the visiting Bombers. Meanwhile, in the 7th grade nightcap, Gilmore used a huge late basket by Brock Grininger to provide the difference in a 43-40 win over the host Falcons. In today's NCAL boys games, Weimar Hills travels to Gilmore; Union Hill hosts Magnolia and Seven Hills treks to Pleasant Valley. 8th Grade Forest Lake 45 Gilmore 44 - The Falcons used solid teamwork down the stretch to squeak past the Bombers. The win gives the Falcons a 3-8 league mark. Gilmore, 1-10 in league action, was led in its efforts by Gareth Noxon and Kyle Cammon. 7th Grade Gilmore 43 Forest Lake 40 - With the score tied at 39-39, Gilmore's Brock Grininger drilled a foul line jumper with 30 seconds to play to give the Bombers a lead they wouldn't relinquish. A free toss by David O'Brien with 17 seconds to play cut the Gilmore lead to one but after two FLC fouls, Gilmore's Jericho Mendez scored a lay-in with three seocnds to play for the final margin of victory. Mendez led all scorers with 23 points while Jess Sutton added 10. Forest Lake was led by Kyle Kirsch with 10 points, Logan Markstein with nine, O'Brien with eight and Kyle Soria with seven.
