Sept. 24, 2008 NCAL Football: Eagles Outlast UH, 32-19; PV Nipped
It was an exciting afternoon of Nevada County Athletic League flag football action on Tuesday as Mt. St. Mary’s and Seven Hills both notched respective close victories in well-played contests. Here’s a recap of Tuesday’s games: Mt. St. Mary’s 32 Union Hill 19 – Quarterback Michael Buonarti tallied three touchdowns and also played a standout game on defense with Allie Lima to help the Eagles outscore the Bearcats in a wild tilt. Buonarti had eight flag pulls while Lima added five to help keep Union Hill’s offense in check. Besides Buonarti’s offensive outburst wide receivers Ben Kaupt and Nick Hastert also were vital in the victory. Kaupt caught a pair of long scoring passes while Hastert hauled in a 20-yard TD aerial. Union Hill also had its share of standouts in the contest as Kyle McCombs, a 7th grader, played strongly at center while teammate Chad Grenon hauled in four pass receptions including a TD aerial from quarterback Trevor Lund. Philip Breaux led the Bearcats with seven flag pulls and quarterback Mt. St. Mary’s improved to 4-0 with the win and will play Yuba River Charter Thursday afternoon at Ready Springs School in Penn Valley. Seven Hills 13 Pleasant Valley 12 – A key extra point conversion in the second half provided the difference for the Raiders from Seven Hills to squeeze past Pleasant Valley. The tight game was scoreless through one half of play before the Vikings broke through on a 30-yard scoring pass from Brandon Fouse to James Ramirez. Weston Messer, the Vikings’ leading rusher on the day with 87 yards on 14 carries, added another teedee for PV while Freddy Williams with six flag pulls, Jakob Freele with four and Clay Coon with a pass interception topped the defense. Pleasant Valley plays Ready Springs on Thursday in its next game. |
