No. 1 Del Oro visits No. 2 NU Friday night

It's not often that the No. 1 and No. 2 teams in any poll, in any sport for that matter, get to decide supremacy on the field.

But that will be the case Friday night in Grass Valley when the top two teams in the foothillpreps.com's JV football poll collide with Sierra Foothill League leadership on the line.

Del Oro's Golden Eagles, riding a 16-game win streak that dates back through their frosh season in 2010, will bring a perfect 6-0 mark and risk their No. 1 ranking when they play at No. 2 ranked Nevada Union.

NU is 5-1 on the year and coming off its biggest win to date, a 14-13 come from behind decision over Granite Bay last Friday on the road. Game time at NU's Hooper Stadium is set for 5:15 p.m.

Here are this week's JV and Frosh rankings:

JV

1.Del Oro (6-0) - Previosuly undefeated Rocklin trailed just 28-20 in third quarter before Golden Eagles put down the hammer, 42-20.

2.Nevada Union (5-1) - They're calling NU JV coach Dennis Houlihan the "miracle worker" after he orchestrated win over Granite Bay.

3.Colfax (5-1) - Falcons' pass-catch duo of Michael Wilson to Kyle Bryant is lighting foes up.

4.Bear River (5-1) - Bruins jumped on Placer early, then cruised home 35-24.

5,Placer (2-4) - Hillmen host Lincoln Friday in key game to stay in PVL race.

Frosh

1.Nevada Union (4-2) - NU looks to rebound Thursday vs. Del Oro.

2.Colfax (6-0) - Falcons will get tested by 4-1 Mesa Verde Thursday.

3.Bear River (4-2) - Bruins handled Placer, 21-7.Play at Vista del Lago Thursday.

4.Placer (3-3) - Hillman Austin Hess is new offensive threat for Placer.

5.Del Oro (1-5) - Golden Eagles didn't show up in loss to Rocklin.
