Sept. 19, 2006 Bear River Frosh roll past Calaveras Bear River’s freshman football team improved to 2-0 with a 35-0 win over Calaveras of San Andreas Thursday night. The host Bruins used a balanced offense and strong defense to build a 20-0 halftime lead. The Bruins have now outscored their opposition 96-0 through two contests. Big plays for the Bruins came from Trevor McGee who hauled in a 35-yard scoring pass from quarterback James Harris and Sammy Aguilar who scored on a 25-yard run. Colfax 22 Truckee 13 at Colfax: Bren Rooker returned a pass interception 100-yards for a second quarter touchdown to highlight Colfax’s win over Truckee. Hunter Owns scored the game’s first touchdown on a 27-yard run. The Falcons’ (1-1) other points came on an 8-yard scoring toss from quarterback Austin Young to Sam Quinlan and on defense when Roger Lillie tackled a Truckee runner in the end zone for a safety. Del Oro 40 Antelope 0 at Loomis – Kyle Anderson and Ronnie Warner each scored touchdowns as the Golden Eagles improved to 2-0 with the easy win over the Titans. Del Oro’s defense also blocked a punt for a touchdown and also recorded a safety for two more points. Woodcreek 22 Placer 13 at Roseville – Woodcreek used a kickoff return for a touchdown as the difference in the win over the Hillmen. “We played pretty well but gave up a couple of big plays,” said Placer coach Jim Gray whose Hillmen fell to 0-2. “We’re playing a tough preseason schedule.” Placer’s touchdowns came via a 60-yard pass interception return by Hayden Goodwin and on a five-yard run by Joe Magino. Others checking in with good games according to Gray were quarterback D.J. Rodriguez and linebackers Johnny Foley, Casey Sabins, and Brandon Ranaldo. Nevada Union 47 Rocklin 6 at Grass Valley - The Miners improved to 2-0 with the runaway win over the Thunder. Gabe Humphers galloped 58 yards for another score in the first quarter and quarterback Josiah Paye added two touchdown runs to lead the Miners to a 28-0 first quarter.
