Nevada Union running back Michael Buonarati (13) follows the blocking of Hank Humphers on a sweep play Thursday night. The NU frosh team raised its season record to 4-0 with a 39-0 win over visiting Natomas.

 

Falcons Blank Bruin Frosh, 7-0

A touchdown on the opening drive and solid defense proved fruitful for the Colfax Falcons frosh football team as the Falcons posted a 7-0 Pioneer Valley League win over Bear River Thursday at Lake of the Pines.

Austin Mulderrig tallied on a 25-yard scoring run on Colfax's opening drive and then successfully booted the extra point for the game’s lone scoring.

Cody Heard and Travis McKnight stopped the Falcons running game and Austin Dowling's interception was big.”

Trailing by a score, Bear River (1-2) got the ball at their own with 1:47 to go in the fourth quarter for a final drive but after the Bruins moved to the Colfax 23-yard line, the Falcons   sacked the Bruins quarterback for a 12-yard loss and the victory.

Colfax, which improved to 2-2 with the victory, received pass interceptions from Henry Freer and Cory Schlittenhart.

Placer 42 Mesa Verde 7  -
Running back Michael Robinson rushed for 160 yards and tallied four touchdowns Thursday night as the Hillmen improved to 4-0 with the victory.

Placer quarterback Casey Yunk hit on 3 of 4 passes for 150 yards for the Hillmen including a screen pass that Robinson took 75 yards for a TD.

Running backs Brad Moman and Isaac Brahce also had rushing touchdowns for Placer, which scored all of its points in the first half.

Defensive ends Jake Lewis and Eddie Vanderdoes led the Hillmen on the opposite side of the ball, combining for three sacks and 12 tackles.

Ryan Talley finished with a team-high seven tackles, fellow linebacker Tony Suverkropp added five more and free safety Jalen Lewis had some key pass break-ups as well as some big open-field tackles.

Nevada Union 39, Natomas 0 - Nevada Union frosh football team ran its season record to 4-0 with a 39-0 blanking of Natomas Thursday at Hooper Stadium.

Tanner Vallejo scored on a nine-yard run in the first quarter for NU while Hank Humphers added the second touchdown by bulling over from two-yards away.

Back in action after being sidelined two weeks with an injury, quarterback Kyle Cota  fired a 26-yard touchdown pass from to Sean Zuccaro that left NU up 19-0 in the first quarter.

Cota and Zuccaro then hooked up again in the second quarter to push the halftime score, 25-0.

Cota fired his third touchdown pass to Zuccaro in the third quarter, before Humphers added the final touchdown on an eight-yard run.

Vallejo was NU’s leading tackler with nine stops, followed by Humphers and Ian Davis with six tackles each. Michael Buonarati made three point-after kicks, while picking up fumble recoveries were Vallejo, Buonarati and Chris Garrison.

Del Oro 29 Merced 21 – The Golden Eagles built a big 29-7 lead and then held off the visiting Bears in the fourth quarter for the win.

Leading the Del Oro victory was the efforts of running backs Mark Leveron, Zach LaBar and Troy Kline. Levron scored a pair of touchdowns while LaBar, who had two pass interceptions in the game, also scored on an 8-yard run.

Del Oro quarterback Peter Denham accounted for another DO tally when he found Josh Krieger on a 20-yard touchdown pass. Del Oro (3-1) plays Vintage of Napa next week.
