GV Angels sneak past BR Diamondbacks, 4-3

Heads-up base-running proved to be the key ingredient for the Grass Valley Angels Monday night in District 11 Little League major division baseball action at Condon Park.

Tied 3-3 in the bottom of the sixth inning, the Angels’ Sydney Porter led off the inning by reaching first on an error. Porter then stole second base and then came around on a pair of passed balls to score the winning run in an exciting 4-3 win over the Bear River Diamondbacks.

The Diamondbacks had held a 2-0 advantage through three and a half innings before the Angels rallied to take the lead at 3-2.

Clutch hits from Sydney Porter, Brady Porter and Brock Griniger and a solo home run by Rory Maloney sparked the Angels in their fourth inning uprising.

The Diamondbacks scored a single run in the top of the sixth inning to tie the game but further damage was prevented when Griniger came in to slam the door with runners on second and third base.

That set the stage for the Angels’ winning bottom of the sixth heroics.
