Grass Valley Jr. Yankees Win In TOC

A strong combined pitching effort from Cody Gardner and Logan Gardner helped propel the Grass Valley Yankees by the Nevada City Red Sox Saturday in a first round District 11 Jr. Division Tournament of Champions game played in Rocklin.

Cody Gardner hurled the first five and one-third innings in a strating role before giving way to Logan Gardner who picked up the save.

Nevada City pitcher Rob Wood was also on his game as he too hurled a fine game in defeat. At the plate, Cody Gardner (2x3) and Wils Riley (1x3) sparked the Grass Valley attack.

The Yankees now advance to meet the Penn Valley Giants on Thursday at 6:30 p.m. in a second round game also in Rocklin.

Penn Valley defeated Tri-City in another first round game played on Saturday.
