Sept. 24, 2008 Magnolia now 9-0; Union Hill 7th, 6-0 A pair of Nevada County Athletic League girls basketball teams posted victories on Tuesday to remain undefeated on the season and in league play respectively. Magnolia’s 8th graders turned back Seven Hills, 52-25 to push their season mark to 9-0 and their league slate to 6-0. Union Hill, meanwhile, stayed perfect in 7th grade play with a 43-11 win on Tuesday at Gilmore. Magnolia 8th 52 Seven Hills 25 – Fine all-around play from Justine Corralejo and Shelby Angus helped spark the Lady Rattlers past Seven Hills. Sarah Hagar’s nine points, eight from Sara Schell and seven via Angus led the Magnolia offense. Also playing well for Magnolia was Savannah Welz. Magnolia hosts second place standing Weimar Hills today at 4 p.m. in a key NCAL tilt. Union Hill 7th 43 Gilmore 11 – Lauren Mickel and Emma Peterson proved to be a tough one-two punch as the Bearcats cruised past the Bombers for their 6th straight NCAL 7th grade division triumph Mickel led all scorers in the game by netting 15 markers and Peterson followed right behind with 13. In earlier Bearcats action action not reported, Union Hill bested Pleasant Valley 64-4 as Katie Johnson poured in 23 points. The Bearcats also ran past Seven Hills, 65-2, as Mickel tallied 13 points and Janette Williams added 12. Union Hill travels to Forest Lake today with 8th grade action set for 4 p.m. followed by the 7th grade game at approximately 5:15. |
