Top Teams Risk Unbeaten Marks On Road
The two top teams in the foothillpreps.com’s weekly JV and Frosh football rankings will risk their respective unbeaten seasons on the road tonight and Friday.
At the frosh level, Del Oro’s Golden Eagles, 5-0 after handing Elk Grove a 42-0 thrashing last Thursday, will play at equally undefeated Granite Bay tonight in the Sierra Foothill League opener for both teams.
In five outings this season, Del Oro has outscored its opposition by a 190-6 margin.
NU’s frosh are also undefeated at 5-0 but have a bye this weekend because Valley fields no frosh squad. The Miners will resume their schedule on Oct. 23 when they host Franklin of Elk Grove.
Nevada Union’s JV team also improved to 5-0 the easy way last week when Franklin of Stockton was a no-show for the game with the Miners and forfeited.
The Franklin bus took a wrong route to NU and ended up in South Lake Tahoe before the Yellowjackets realized their mistake. NU plays Valley at Consumnes River College Friday.
Meanwhile, Del Oro moves back into the No. 2 position after an impressive 33-7 win over Elk Grove.
This week’s rankings:
JV
Nevada Union (5-0) - Franklin bus driver must have confused Lake Tahoe with Rollins Lake.
Del Oro (4-1) – Bet you didn’t know: Veteran Del Oro JV coach Jerry Van Lengen’s Hilmar varsity teams from 1986-90 held the state win streak record at 46 in a row.
Placer (4-1 – Hillmen are averaging 42 points a game in its four wins this season.
Colfax (2-3) – Be wary of the Falcons, Colfax’s three setbacks are to teams who are a combined 14-1.
Bear River (2-3) – After ho-hum win at Lindhurst, Bruins need to beat Whitney Friday to stay in PVL hunt.
Frosh Big Little Five
Del Oro (5-0) – Golden Eagles face big hurdle at unbeaten Granite Bay today.
Nevada Union (4-0) – With a bye, Miners will have to wait a week to try and get veteran NU co-coach Gary Sharpe his 100th career win.
Bear River (3-2) – Bruins will try and tighten PVL race with a with at home over Whitney today.
Colfax (3-2) – Talented Whitney QB Jake Rodriguez threw for three touchdowns and ran for one in 29-22 win over Falcons.
Placer (2-3) – Hillmen rolled El Dorado for second straight PVL win, play at Foothill today in non-league contest.
