BR Frosh Nipped by T-Wolves

Bear River's frosh football team took on a highly-touted Woodcreek squad last Thursday in Roseville and battled the host T-Wolves tooth and nail before dropping a 28-21 non-league decision. Bear River will travel to Yuba City Thursday to meet River Valley.

 

NU Aerial Attack Flys Past Chico, 48-14

Nevada Union JV quarterback Kyle Cota threw for six touchdowns and 305 yards has the Miners rolled past Chico last Friday, 48-14.

On the receiving end of Cota's aerials were tSean Zuccaro and Jared Cook each had two touchdown receptions while Ian Davis and Terry Graham each had scoring reception. NU's other touchdown came via a run by Stone Sander.

Nevada Union's defense also came up big with five interceptions, led by Miguel Espinosa's two.

Bear River 20, Woodcreek 14 - The Bruin junior varsity team made it four straight wins on the season  by shutting down a Woodcreek offense that had averaged 36 points through the first three games of the season.

Bear River led 20-6 until the Timberwolves added another score with 23 seconds remaining.

Cody Heard led the team with five solo tackles, including one for a loss, and a quarterback sack. Austin Dowling had four solo stops and three passes defended.

On offense, Bear River was led by Michael Raigoza, who ran for 78 yards and a touchdown, while Austin Dowling added 55 yards and a score. Dillon Smith also rushed for a touchdowns.

 
Placer 49, Casa Roble 20 — Isaac Brahce rushed for four touchdowns, Tyler Lipsmeyer caught a touchdown pass from Casey Yunk and the quarterback ran one in himself as the Hillmen improved to 2-0-1 on the season.
Ryan Talley added a touchdown off of a blocked punt for the Hillmen. Jake Lewis and Tony Surverkropp had two sacks apiece to lead the defense.

Oakridge 36 Del Oro 35 - Del Oro's JVs dropped their first gam of the season to the Trojans on the road. Del Oro’s starting quarterback, Zach Lebar left the game after a concussion sidelined him in the first half. Josh Krieger had a key interception on third down that he returned 20 yards. Brandon Monroe returned a kickoff 95 yards late in the second quarter.


Monroe was the gut of the offense for Del Oro, scoring with 4:17 left in the game and converting a two-point conversion to put the Eagles ahead 35-33. Del Oro stopped the Trojan’s next drive only to fumble the ball with two minutes remaining.


The Trojans completed a 40-yard pass down the sideline with 1:37 remaining and found the end zone 37 seconds later. Oak Ridge converted its own two-point conversion to win the game 36-35.

 

Frosh

Nevada Union 28 Chico 22 -The Nevada Union frosh team posted an exciting homecoming win last Thursday over Chico. The Miners posted a fourth quarter rally to improve their record to 2-2 on the season.

An early fourth-down snap over the NU punter's head led to a first down inside the 10 for Chico, which scored in three plays and made it 8-0 less than three minutes into the game. NU came back and was able to score from 40 yards out on a Jake Berger TD run to make it 8-6 in the first quarter. Chico came back just before the half and went up 14-6 on a short scoring pass.

On the first possession of the second half, Dylan Conger intercepted a Panthers pass and returned it 35 yards to the Chico 30 yard line. Eight plays later, on fourth-and-goal at the one, Brandon Lopez pounded in for the score and Jakob Freele ran in the point after for a 14-14 tie.

A Chico touchdown to make it 22-14 against the Miners in the fourth, but NU took the kickoff from their own 20 and drove steadily down the field with Freele scoring from 40 yards out on an option to knot the score at 22-22.

NU forced a punt by Chico after several first downs and the ball settled at the NU 19-yard line 3:30 left in the game. On the very next play Jake Berger took it 81 yards to the house on a counter play for the final score.

Chico came back strong, but with two minutes left in the game Takoda White recovered a Chico fumble to allow NU to take possession and run out the clock.

NU (2-2) was led by Berger's six carries for 133 yards, Lopez with 17 for 78 yards, and Jason Murray with 11 for 72 yards.

Murray led all tacklers with nine tackles including two for a loss. T.J. Hart had nine tackles, Berger had eight, while Dylan McClure and Sam Hayward had seven each.

 

Del Oro 28  Oakridge 8 – The Golden Eagles ran their season mark to 4-0 with the win on the road in El Dorado Hills.

Placer 40, Casa Roble 30 — The Hillmen improved to 2-1 with a win Thursday over the Rams. Fullback Cameron Scott rushed for 190 yards and three touchdowns while Todd Valliere added two more scores and Austin Lableu one. Kelton McDonald led the Placer defense along with Caleb Clement, Noah Daley and Lableu.

Colfax 21 Rio Vista JV 0 – Tanner Kane rushed for 105 yards and the Colfax defense did the rest as the frosh Falcons improved to 3-1 with the road win over the Rams JV squad. Kane scored on runs of 15 and 21 yards while the Falcons’ other score came via a 62-yard aerial from Michael Wilson to Chancey Trentman. Colfax hosts Davis Thursday at 5:30 p.m.

Woodcreek 28  Bear River 0 - The Bruins went on the road and played the Roseville school tough before dropping the close non-league game. Bear River plays Thursday at River Valley in Yuba City.
