Colfax's frosh hosts Inderkum Thursday at Colfax High starting at 5 p.m. obfoto.com Sept. 1, 2011 Zero Week Roundup Bear River JVs Keep Win Streak Going At 22 Straight Bear River rode the running of Michael Tipton, Caleb Johnson and Brad Botsford to a dominating 45-13 win over Cordova in their season opener. The win was the 22nd straight over three seasons for the Bruins JV football program which hasn’t lost since the 2008 season. Zach Quirarte had an interception to lead the Bruins defense while Hunter Cramer had a big game on the defensive line. The Bruins will be at home Friday for a Frosh-JV doubleheader against Hug of Reno. JV game time is set for 7:30 p.m. Del Oro JV 41 Spanish Springs 0 - Del Oro’s JV football team capitalized on four turnovers last Friday night to help pave the way to a season opening 41-0 win over Spanish Springs of Sparks, Nevada. Fumble recoveries by Brian Leveille, Jeremy Pilcher and Jahann Nargussi all set up touchdowns as the Golden Eagles built a 20-0 halftime lead and weren’t threatened in the second half. Nargussi scored on a one-yard run while Michael Moore and Therin Heryford connected on a long 70-yard scoring pass. Moore also tossed a 29-yard scoring pass to Joe Becker. Heryford then busted the game wide open when he returned the second half kickoff 75 yards for another score. Rounding out the scoring was Jonathan Tuttle who tallied on a 32-yard run and Duncan Small who added a 39-yard touchdown jaunt. Cody Clayton, Jonah Mekebri and Shane Peterson also stood out on defense for the Golden Eagles who will play Westlake of Westlake Village at 5;30 p.m. Friday on the opening day of the “Battle at the Capital” showcase.
Colfax JVs 44 El Camino 20 – Tanner Kane scored on a 68-yard run and Chauncey Trentman scored on a 51 pass interception return as the Falcons opened their season with a win. McQueen JV 27 Nevada Union 20 — In Reno, NU tallied on a 37-yard touchdown pass from Michael Tapia to Gareth Noxon late in the game to knot things at 20-20, but couldn't keep the Lancers from scoring in the final minutes in a season-opening loss for Nevada Union's junior varsity. Central Catholic JV 42 Placer 0 – The road trip to Modesto proved to be a long one for the Hillmen as they fell to the host Raiders. The Hillmen host Grant on Friday night at 5:30 p.m. Frosh Bear River Frosh 28, Cordova 8 — The Bruins got touchdowns from four different players in dominating their opener. Kyle Krogman, John Voter and Austin Smith had rushing touchdowns. Garrett Ramsauer caught a TD pass from Voter. Colfax Frosh 33 El Camino 18 – Tim Rawlins scored a pair of touchdowns on short runs and quarterback Logan Hurst connected on a 32-yard touchdown pass to Carrick Hoffart as the Falcons won their opener. Placer Frosh 28 Del Oro 20 - The game was tied at the half, but Placer’s Christian Davis intercepted a pass and returned it 45 yards to end the third quarter. One play later, Davis caught an 18-yard-touchdown pass from Clark Pietromanaco to give Placer a 21-14 lead. Cole Blackwell added a 50-yard TD run later in the fourth quarter to seal the victory for the Hillmen.
Blackwell finished with 165 rushing yards and two touchdowns. Ryan Gray rushed for 105 yards and one TD. Dominique Perez was perfect on four point-after kicks. Placer has a bye next week before facing Sutter on Sept. 8.
