Bruins JVs, Frosh Level Lancers

JV: Bear River 38, Cordova 6- Bear River's JVs kicked off their 2010 season in fine fashion by rolling past the Lancers. Bruins quarterback Dillon Smith tossed five touchdown passes in the rout of the Sierra Valley Conference foe. “We asked him to step up and he did,” said Bruins coach Chris Bean whose JV program stretched its winning skein to 11 straight games over two seasons. An important offensive drive to score just before half time set the tone for the rest of the game, putting the Bruins up 20-6, Bean said. “The kids worked real hard and the defense stepped up,” Bean said.

Placer JV 47 Vallejo 12 - The Hillmen weren't challenged in winning coach Jim Packheiser’s coaching debut. Quarterback Casey Yunk threw two touchdown passes and ran for another score to spark Placer. Tyler Lipsmeyer caught a touchdown and ran for another. Alex Graziano, Isaac Brahce and Brendan Packheiser added rushing TDs for the Hillmen. Defensively, Jacob Peek and Corey Schlittenhart had interceptions. Jake Lewis and James Hubbard provided excellent line play for Placer.

EL Camino JV 35 Colfax 14 - Colfax stayed with the Eagles 14-14 at halftime but were doomed by three second half turnovers. Henry Freer (15x52) and Austin Perry (16x67) both scored touchdowns for the Falcons. Marcus Hoogendyk, Matt Stuck and freshman Jack Baldoni shined for the Falcons on defense. Colfax will host Del Oro on Thursday in a frosh-JV doublheader. Frosh kickoff is set for 5:30 p.m. followed by the JV game at 7:30 p.m.

McQueen  JV 28 Nevada Union 14 - The Reno squad capitalized on some Miners' mistakes to notch the non-league win. NU plays at Ponderosa Friday night at 5:30 p.m.

Colfax Frosh 25 El Camino 8 - Tanner Kane rushed 17 times for 102 yards and scored three touchdowns to help lift the Falcons to a road win in their season opener. Colfax quarterback Michael Wilson also passed for 115 yards including a 10-yard scoring pass to Chris Harshman. Ryan Hawkins, Jake Mederios and Kyle Bryant led the Colfax defense. Colfax hosts Del Oro Thursday at Marson Field starting at 5:30 p.m.

Bear River Frosh 31 Cordova 8 - The Bruins won their opener by dominating the Lancers from start to finish.The Bruins will go for their second win of the season Thursday when they host Inderkum at 5:30 p.m.

McQueen 33 Nevada Union 6 - The visiting Lancers took advantage of seven NU turnovers to post the opening game win. The Miners play Thursday at Ponderosa.

Placer Opens Thursday - Placer's frosh football team will open its 2010 season Thursday with an away game at Gridley. Kickoff is set for 5:30 p.m.
