Falcons Too Much For Hillmen, 39-14 Colfax turned a battle of 7-1 Pioneer Valley League JV teams into a runaway in Auburn Friday night as the Falcons’ bruising ground attack punished Placer’s Hillmen, 39-14. Led by the 1-2 rushing punch of Hunter Owens and Nolan Karbowski, the Falcons’ “Spread” attack built an 18-8 halftime lead before breaking the contest open in the second half. “I thought our offensive line did a great job,” said Colfax JV coach Jason Stowers. “The blocking up front was the difference tonight.” Owens finished the game with a season high 212 yards on 22 carries and scored one touchdown while quarterback Karbowski added 148 more yards and two touchdowns. Colfax, which also received a pair of touchdowns from Sam Quinlan, finished the game with 477 yards of offense. Zac Coffman, Brett Fowler, Cory Rodgers and David Mowbray were the defensive standouts for the Falcons. Johnny Foley threw a touchdown pass and also ran for a score for the Hillmen who fell to 7-2. Colfax (8-1, 4-1) hosts Lincoln Friday night while Placer (7-2, 3-2) visits Whitney. Del Oro 41 Rocklin 6 – The Golden Eagle JVs improved to 9-0 and cinched at least a tie for the Sierra Foothill League crown with the win. Del Oro quarterback Bobby Heatherington passed for two touchdowns while Nick O’Sullivan added two more on runs of 30 and one-yards. Russell Smith also tallied another six points on a 22 yard jaunt. Heatherington threw first-half TD passes of 19 yards to Alex Bertrando and 15 yards to Blake Covey as the Golden Eagles led 27-0 at halftime. Kyle Anderson also added more punch with a 60-yard run on the first play from scrimmage in the second half. Ashwin Cardenas recovered a fumble in the end zone for Del Oro’s final touchdown, his first career touchdown. Bear River 47 Lincoln 6 - Brandon Wooner and Dallen Huetter each had a hand in three Bear River touchdowns as the Bruins remained perfect with the big romp over Lincoln. The Bear River JVs will attempt to complete a 10-0 season this Friday versus El Dorado in Placerville. Wooner, had five carries for 96 yards and two tallied two touchdowns on offense. He also took back a pass interception 34 yards for a score in the second quarter. Huetter, the Bruins’ quarterback, had touchdown runs of 78 and 6 yards and also threw a TD pass to Justin Butler. Also scoring for the Bruins was Josh Toft, who collected the game’s first TD on a 3-yard run in the second quarter. Toft finished with 68 yards on seven carries, and fellow running back Jimmy Bamburg had 70 yards on 11 carries as Bear River rolled up 377 yards on the ground. Dillon Huffman led Bear River defensively with 11 tackles, a sack and a fumble recovery. Fellow defensive tackle Nick Mendenwald and Wooner added six tackles apiece. Nevada Union 22 Elk Grove 13 – The Miners improved to 6-3 on the season with the Delta Valley road win over the Herd.
