Placer Puts Wraps On PVL Crown; Finish 9-1

The Placer High JV football team made sure there was no let down in their season finale last Friday night against Whitney.

Coming off emotional back-to-back wins over Lincoln and Colfax in match ups that featured undefeated teams, the Hillmen built a big 28-6 lead by halftime and cruised to a 42-20 win over the visiting Wildcats.

The victory cinched the outright Pioneer Valley League crown for the Hillmen who posted a 6-0 league mark. Overall their season record was 9-1.

In Friday’s win, the running of Josh Turney and the passing of quarterback Colin Burnett to Darren Centi caught the Wildcats flat-footed in the early going and allowed the Green and Gold to build their big early lead.

Once again the Hillmen defense was superb has fine efforts from Connor Gray, Zach Scott, Caleb Mitchell, and Cameron Hennen helped keep the visiting Wildcats in check.

Del Oro Cinches Tie For SFL JV Crown

A strong season finish helped push the Del Oro Golden Eagles JV football team to a piece of the Sierra Foothill League championship.

Thanks to their 35-14 conquest of Oakmont last Friday night, the Golden Eagle JVs finished the season with a record of 8-2 and their 4-1 Sierra Foothill League slate left the Black and Gold tied for the loop crown with Granite Bay, both with 4-1 records.

“I thought we had a pretty good season,” said Del Oro coach Jerry Van Lengen. “We had a couple of kids move up to the varsity level but the team kept with it and stayed the course.”

“I think we’re sending a good crop of players up to the varsity level and that’s what it’s all about,” Van Lengen added.

Coming off a big game in Del Oro’s win the previous week over Rocklin, Kenny Andri continued his fine late season surge by scoring three more touchdowns in the win which saw Del Oro build a 21-0 halftime lead.

Del Oro’s other two touchdowns in the game came via a 20-yard scoring pass from quarterback Max Magleby to Mitch Krieger and when Ken Anderson recovered a blocked Vikings punt in the end zone.

Van Lengen also had praise for the fine job the offensive line did throughout the season. Making up that unit were Ryan Cope, Justin Mollard, Aaron Harvey, Tyler Adair and Adrian Garabaldo.

“They did a great job for us all season long,” said Van Lengen.

Miners Close Out Davis; Finish 9-1

Although the Nevada Union JV team missed out on a piece of the Delta Valley Conference championship, the Miners still closed the door on an outstanding season.

Thanks to their 17-10 verdict on the road at Davis, the Miners ended the year 4-1 in DVC action and an impressive 9-1 overall.

NU’s defense shined in the game has Brock Kraus came up with a pair of pass interceptions including one that iced the contest with 30 seconds to go.

Meanwhile, two NU touchdowns were the direct result of defensive gems has both  Devin Grimes and Tyler Prince each returned fumbles for scores.

The Miners finished the season 9-1.
