Trio of Jr. Falcons’ teams improve to 4-1 Once again some exciting football action took over Marson Stadium as the Colfax Jr. Falcons posted three wins in four tries last Saturday against the Center Jr. Cougars. Three of the Colfax teams – the Peewees, Jr. Midgets and Midgets all have 4-1 records thus far in Sacramento Youth Football League play. This Saturday the Falcons complete a five-game home stand by hosting Grant’s Pacers. Game times are 11 a.m. for the Jr. Peewees; 1 p.m. for the Peewees; 3 p.m. for the Jr. Midgets and 5 p.m. for the Midgets. Here’s a recap of last Saturday’s games: Colfax Peewees 38 Center 21 – Marcus Jackson’s 90-yard pass interception return for a touchdown late in the fourth quarter put the lid on the Jr. Falcons’ Peewees 38-21 win over a feisty Center team.Center, which entered the game winless, led for much of the first half before Jackson scored on a 65-yard run following a Travis Mullican fumble recovery. The score, on the last play of the first half, gave Colfax its first lead of the game, 19-14.Colfax, now 4-1 on the season, also received heady play from quarterback Jack Baldoni who kept his team in the game early by tossing a 35-yard scoring toss to Carrick Hoffart. Baldoni also scored on a 10-yard later in the contest.Tim Rawlins started the scoring for the Falcons with a 49-yard tally in the first quarter. The Colfax halfback also added another touchdown in the third quarter when he galloped 45 yards for six points.Starring on defense for the Jr. Falcons were Baldoni, Rawlins, Beau Baggett, Jory Weber and Matt Blackburn. Dalton banister also caught a two-point point after touchdown pass from Baldoni and Anthony Severson had a 41-yard reception. Colfax Jr. Midgets 16 Center 14 (OT) – In an exciting overtime game, Marcus Hoogendyk sacked Center’s quarterback on the Cougars fourth down play in overtime to preserve the Jr. Falcons’ 14-8 win.The two teams were tied 8-8 at the end of regulation before the Falcons went on offense first in the extra session and used a seven-yard pass from Henry Freer to Chancey Trentman for what would prove to be the margin of victory.Colfax had taken an early lead in the game when Freer hit Trentman on a 43-yard halfback option pass for a touchdown. Austin Perry’s two point conversion kick gave the Falcons an 8-0 advantage. However, Center took little time in coming back to tie the game as the Cougars’ fullback busted loose on the first play following the Jr. Falcons’ kick for a 48-yard touchdown run. The ensuing kick then tied the game at 8-8. The contest stayed that way through the remaining three quarters with the Falcons receiving huge defensive efforts from Perry, Patrick Neu, Bailey Bean, Josey Weber, Mason Banish, Trenton Green and Cory Schlittenhart. Jake Medeiros also added a pass interception for the winners. Colfax Midgets 8 Center 0 – In another tight defensive struggle, the Jr. Falcons scored on their first possession of the game and made the score hold up for another shutout win. The victory was the Falcons’ fourth straight shutout and extended their scoreless streak on defense to 18 consecutive quarters. The game was basically decided in the first stanza when Colfax, following a Center punt, took over with good field position at the 50-yard line. After one running play gained a yard, Colfax quarterback Austin Young connected with Zac Coffman for a 49-yard scoring play. Young then added the extra point via placement and the Falcons had an 8-0 lead. Once again the swarming Colfax defense had a stickout day led by Dakota Reagan, David Wood, David Mowbray, Roger Lillie, Shawn Rawlins, Sam Quinlan, Austin Pachaud, Chris Hoffman, Brett Fowler and Eric Accomazzo. Center Jr. Peewees 25 Colfax 0 – The Colfax Jr. Peewees had their hands full against a speedy Center team as the Cougars used three long touchdown runs of over 60 yards to blitz the locals. Top tacklers for the Colfax crew included Anthony Griggs with nine stops and two sacks. Zane McDade added five more tackles and two sacks while Mason Ahrens, Marc Avila, Andy Newburn, Dallan Tretman, Seth McGlothlan and Tyler Nickerson all had good games. |
