Jr. Miners complete regular season Saturday at BR

The Nevada Union Jr. Miners will play their final regular season Sierra Youth Football Conference games this Saturday when they travel to meet the Bear River Jr. Bruins at Bear River High School.

On two levels – the Jr. Midgets and Midgets – playoff berths and seeding will be at stake for both the Jr. Miners and Jr. Bruins.

Game times are slated for 9 a.m. for the Mighty Mites; 11 a.m. for the Jr. Peewees; 1 p.m. for the Peewees; 3 p.m. for the Jr. Midgets and 5 p.m. for the Midgets.

In action last week, NU traveled to Del Oro and took on the Jr. Golden Eagles in Greater Mountain League games.

Del Oro showed the upper hand by taking wins in the Might Mites, 41-14; the Jr. Peewees, 34-8; the Peewees, 22-0; and the Midgets, 44-6.

NU’s lone victory came in a battle of unbeaten

divisional Jr. Midget squads as the Blue and Gold prevailed, 22-16.

In action from the Peewees game, the Jr. Miners had several sterling efforts despite the loss.

Leading the way in the tackle department were Jason Murray with eight and Will Summer with seven and a caused fumble that Ryan Owen recovered.

Also checking in with good all-around efforts were Chase Federmeyer with four tackles on defense and excellent blocking on offense and Tanner Walsh with a 30-yard kickoff return.

Other strong play came from Gareth Noxon who celebrated his 11th birthday with a pass interception and ensuing 20-yard return and Jad Deneke who recovered an onside kick, had two tackles and recorded a sack.

In action last Sunday at Placer, Bear River’s Jr. Bruins posted wins in both the Jr. Midget and Midget games. The Jr. Bruins’ Jr. Midgets were victorious 22-16 while the Midgets took a 44-8 win.

In the lower divisions, Placer defeated the Jr. Bruins by a 32-0 score in the Mighty Mites; a 37-0 count in the Jr. Peewees and a 22-0 blanking in the Peewee game.
