Jr. Miners Midgets romp past Whitney

Nevada Union Jr. Miners Midgets tea, squared its season record at 2-2 last Sayurday by fashioning a 26-0 win on the road at Whitney.

After having some defensive breakdowns because of personnel changes in its previous two games, the Jr. Miners settled down and played one of its strongest games of the season in shutting out the Jr. Wildcats from Rocklin.

Quarterback Kyle Cota was on target in the game as he fired a pair of touchdown passes – one going to tight end Jared Cook and the other to Austin Marks.

Nate Dickinson also added a rushing touchdown and teamed with Stone Sander and Miguel Espinoza to pile up big chunks of rushing yards.

Doing a fine job of blocking to make the passing and running game go were offensive linemen Cameron Townsend, Anthony Hurst, Nick Maffucci, Mason Skipworth and Tim Dudley.

On defense, meanwhile, there were plenty of jarring hits and tackles for losses provided by defensive ends Joshua Swink and Wyatt Manjarez while Sander added a fumble-causing sack of the Whitney quarterback in the end zone which resulted in Jacob Miller recovering for six more points.

In addition to the win, the Jr. Miners also recived word that four players – Kyle Cota, Tanner Vallejo, Stone Sander and Jared Cook – will play for the North All-Stars in the upcoming Shrine All-Star game set for November.

Nevada Union will trek to Lincoln for SYFC action on Saturday at 5 p.m.
