June 4, 2010 Little League Roundup: PV DODGERS SUBS COME THROUGH AGAINST NC YANKEES The Penn Valley Dodgers didn’t let a rule infraction stop them from defeating the host Nevada City Yankees 7-5 in a tense game Wednesday at Pioneer Park. The Yankees jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the 1st inning after shutting down the Dodgers in their haft with runners left on base. The Dodgers went up 3-1 in the 2nd inning after Justin Glidden singled in one and Dalton Maxwell doubled in two runs. The 3rd inning saw the Dodgers tack on four more runs on singles by Benny Gemetti, Bailey Duffy and Glidden. To start the bottom of the 3rd inning, the Yankees, citing a technical rule infraction, forced starting pitcher Joseph Ten Eyck from taking the mound. With their other pitchers out sick, the Dodgers had to call on position players to shoulder the load against a heavy hitting Nevada City team. Orion (O Dog) Clark relieved and with great defense behind him, including a double play, allowed only one run in two innings. Dodger’s third baseman Steven (Flash) McClenthen earned a hard fought save having to pitching the final two innings, as the Yankees didn’t go quietly. The Yankees put up another run in the 5th, and two more in the 6th. With runners on base, Clark, now in center field, managed to haul in two long drives off the Yankee bats to seal the victory. Dodgers moved to 11-5 on the season. PV Dodgers 2 Foresthill A’s 0 - Dalton Maxwell threw a complete game two hitter to defeat the visiting Forrest Hill A’s 2-0 last Tuesday at Western Gateway Park. In what turned out to be a pitchers battle, the A’s left the Dodgers runners stranded at second and third in the 1st inning, after Maxwell singled and Joseph Ten Eyck reached base on an error. The Dodgers managed to push home the only run they needed in the 2nd inning. Steven McClenthen walked and on Bailey Duffy’s sacrifice bunt continued on to third base. Keaton Richards singled him home for the Dodgers first run. The A’s pitching continued to be tough as they shut the Dodgers down one, two, three, in the 3rd and only allowed a single to Maxwell in the 4th inning. Dodgers were able to add an insurance run in the 5th. McClenthen beat out an infield single and after Owen Day reached on an error, was able to score on a wild pitch. Maxwell shut the A’s down in order in the 6th and finished with thirteen strike-outs. The Dodgers moved to 10 and 5 on the season. Nevada City Angels 13 Bear River A's 2 - Trace Anderson went 2x2 with a triple and two runs batted in but it wasn't enough as the Bear River A's dropped a District 11 interleague contest to the Nevada City Angels.
