Magnolia, Weimar Hills girls

improve 8th grade marks to 3-0

Magnolia and Weimar Hills’ girls 8th grade basketball teams both improved their Nevada County Athletic League records to 3-0 with respective wins  Wednesday afternoon.

At Forest Lake, Janelle Jenser sank 12 points and Brenna Gato added six as the Rattlers topped Forest Lake Falcons, 38-28.

Jen Meylor, Brenna Klauer and Casey Brown were cited by coach Dave Phelps for their standout defensive play in the victory.

In an earlier game, Magnolia topped Pleasant Valley, 34-18, as Gatto scored six points and Klauer and Maddie Phelps tallied five points apiece.

Wednesday at Sierra Hills School in Meadow Vista, Weimar Hills chalked up its third straight 8th grade win as Ally Rondoni’s 10 points and solid all-around play by Mariah Turcotte and Haley Wall sparked a 45-15 win over Pleasant Valley.

In an earlier game played on Tuesday, Weimar Hills raced past Gilmore 42-34 as Hailey Biles tallied 13 points and Iona Lofrano netted 10.

PV upends Weimar Hills 7th Grade Girls

Pleasant Valley’s 7th grade girls basketball team built an early lead and maintained throughout the contest is notching a 30-19 win over Weimar Hills Wednesday in Meadow Vista.

“Pleasant Valley played a very god game,” said Weimar Hills coach Jill Kirkland. “They shot the ball well and rebounded strongly.”

In an earlier game on Tuesday, Weimar Hills turned back Lyman Gilmore, 34-15, behind strong efforts from Katy Thomas, Amber Tobiasz and Kathy Harrison.

Elsewhere in NCAL 7th grade play on Wednesday, Cindy Solomon and Sara Hager sparked magnolia’s offense in a 40-13 conquest of Forest Lake Christian.

The win was the third straight in the 7th grade division for the Rattlers. Magnolia coach Chuck Nat also praised the play on defense of Sara Schell and Savannah Welz has a key to the victory.

In a tighter contest played last week at Lake of the Pines, Magnolia was able to squeeze out a 26-23 win over Pleasant Valley.
