Sweep opening hoop games

Nevada County Athletic League girls basketball action tipped off play Wednesday afternoon and both Magnolia and Weimar Hills recorded opening game sweeps over their respective foes.

8th Grade

Magnolia 41 Union Hill 29 – The visiting Rattlers led from start to finish in handling the Bearcats. The winners used a balanced scoring attack in the victory.

Weimar Hills 38 Forest Lake 24 – Iona Lofrano tossed in 11 points and Kate Bianchi added nine as the Lady Warriors tripped up the host Forest Lake Falcons.

7th Grade

Magnolia 40 Union Hill 11 – Outstanding team defense guided the 7th grade Rattlers to the verdict over the Bearcats.

Weimar Hills 37 Forest Lake 10 – Strong defense from guards Brittany Thomas and Amber Tobiasz helped spark the 7th grade Lady Warriors to the opening game victory. High scorers for the winners were Katy Thomas and Kathy Harrison with 10 points apiece.
