SYFC Season Kicks Off

Both the Nevada Union Jr. Miners, abover left, and the Bear River Jr. Bruins, right, will be at home this Saturday for their 2008 Sierra Youth Football Conference season football openers. NU will play host to the Oakmont Jr. Vikings at Nevada Union High School while Bear River will entertain the Del Oro Jr. Golden Eagles at Bear River High. Action begins with the Mighty Mights playing at 9 a.m.

NU, Bear River in home SYFC openers Saturday

Ready or not, the Sierra Youth Football Conference kicks off its 2008 season with games set for all five divisions of play at various sites around the foothills area.

Locally, the Nevada Union Jr. Miners and the Bear River Jr. Bruins will both open their respective seasons with home games while the Placer Jr. Hillmen will venture on the road.

At Nevada Union High, the Jr. Miners will host the Oakmont Jr. Vikings with games set for as follows 9 a.m. - Might Mights; 11 a.m. - Jr. Peewees; 1 p.m. - Peewees; 3 p.m. - Jr. Midgets and 5 p.m - Midgets.

Meanwhile, at Lake of the Pines, Bear River will open its campaign with a test against the Del Oro Jr. Golden Eagles. Games are also 9 a.m. - Mighty Mights; 11 a.m. - Jr. Peewees; 1 p.m. - Peewees; 3 p.m. Jr. Midgets; 5 p.m. - Midgets.

Placer will take to the road and play at Rio Americano High against the American River Raiders. The Jr. Hillmen's times are slated for 9 a.m. - Might Mights; 11 a.m.- Jr. Peewees; 1 p.m. - Peewees; 3 p.m. - Jr. Midgets and 5 p.m. - Midgets.

Next week, Sept. 6, Nevada Union travels to Auburn to take on Placer and Bear River is at home again to host the Lincoln Jr. Zebras.
