Miners JVs, DO Frosh Top Rankings
The first foothillpreps.com’s JV and Frosh football grid poll was released this week and it’s Nevada Union’s JVs and Del Oro’s freshman sitting atop the 2008 season’s first rankings.
Nevada Union’s JV Miners showed some moxie last week by rallying from a 12-0 halftime deficit and using Josh Cena’s extra point kick with less than four minutes to play as the difference in a 13-12 win at Ponderosa.
Meanwhile, Del Oro’s freshman squad teamed a balanced rushing and passing attack with a strong defensive outing in a 28-0 win over Colfax.
In games this week, Nevada Union’s JVs host Rocklin on Friday while Del Oro’s freshman entertain Antelope on Thursday in Loomis.

JV Top Five
1. .Nevada Union (1-0)….Miners defense made game saving stop of Ponderosa inside the five-yard line with less than four minutes to play to preserve, 13-12 win.
2. Del Oro (1-0)….In a battle of respective 2007 SFL and PVL championship frosh teams, Golden Eagles used Kenny Andri’s 95-yard fourth quarter touchdown run to seal a 27-12 win over Colfax. Host North Bay Power Cardinal newman of Santa Rosa Saturday night at 5:30 in Loomis.
3. Colfax (0-1)….With 2007 leading rusher Tom Baldoni elevated to the varsity, converted linebacker Connor Brown stepped in at fullback and rushed for 92 yards in loss at Del Oro.
4. Placer (1-0)….Hillmen scored through the air and on the ground in 35-14 win over Rosemont. Caleb Mitchell hauled in two touchdown passes from quarterback Colin Burnett.At Woodcreek Friday.
5. Bear River (1-0)….Gave new coach Chris Bean his first BR win via a 27-7 victory over Div. VI foe Capital Christian. Host Calaveras Friday night.

1. Del Oro (1-0)…Running, passing and defense helped Golden Eagles looked impressive in 28-0 win over Colfax. Host Antelope Thursday night.
2. Nevada Union (1-0)…Gabe Humphers ran for 152 yards and two touchdowns and Josiah Paye managed the game from his quarterback post as the Miners rolled past Ponderosa, 43-0. Get tested Thursday versus Rocklin.
3. Bear River (1-0)…Bruins 61-0 win over El Camino – won’t be confused with a victory over De La Salle.
4. Placer (0-1)….Three turnovers deep in their own territory doomed Hillmen in 33-13 loss at Galt. Play at Woodcreek Thursday.
* 5. Colfax (0-1)…Bren Rooker had two pass interceptions in Colfax’s loss at Del Oro. Falcons host Truckee Thursday at 5:30 p.m.
