Sept. 7, 2010 Weimar 8th Grade Girls Nip 7 Hills The opening round games of the Nevada County Athletic League girls basketball season went in the books Tuesday afternoon and in a nail biter played in Meadow Vista, the Weimar Hills and Seven Hills 8th grade squads clashed in an thriller that went right down to the wire. In a game where no more than three points seperated the two teams for the entire four quarters, Weimar Hills used a basket from Vanessa Braum with 33 seconds to play to pull out an exciting 29-28 win over the Raiders. The Warriors and Raiders were knotted 13-13 at halftime and 17-17 after three quarters before Weimar Hills rallied in the final two minutes after falling behind, 28-25. Katie Garcia's six points and four each from Sydney Wegener, Brooklyn Pitz and Erin Souza led Weimar's offense. Seven Hills was paced by Rose Lavulo's 10 points. In other 8th garde action Tuesday: Forest Lake 48 Pleasant Valley 14 - The Falcons opened the season at home with the win over the Vikings. 7th Grade Pleasant Valley 20 Forest Lake 16 - Taylor Johnston sank 12 points and Summer Brown tallied 8 as Pleasant Valley went on the road for the opening night victory. Pleasant Valley coach Gene Smith singled out Maggie Hastings for a strong defensive game. Weimar Hills 38 Seven Hills 4 - The Lady Warriors placed nine players in the scoring column as they breezed past the Raiders.
