Meg Anderson of the Mt. St. Mary's girls basketball team turns the corner with a dribble in this week's game with Ready Springs. The Lady Eagles notched a 35-23 win.

Mt.St. Mary's opens with win

After a three-year hiatus, the Mt. St. Mary’s School has a girls basketball team back on the court and from early indications the Lady Eagles could be a factor in the Nevada County Athletic League’s small schools division.

Under the direction of new coach Ryan Ellis, the Lady Eagles registered a 35-23 win last week over Ready Springs.

Led by Nicole Blaney with 22 points and Sophia "George" Rubino who added 5 pts and grabbed 7 rebounds, Mt. St. Mary’s built an early lead and steadily pulled away to the win.

Off the bench the Lady Eagles received spark from 5th grader Bri Parker with 4 points. She also added solid defensive play with 3 steals.

In other action:

Magnolia 7th 34 Seven Hills 14 - The Magnolia 7th grade squad Lady Rattlers continued to roll improving to 4-1 on the season with a 34-14 win over the Seven Hills at the Raider’s gym.

Taylor Autrey led all scorers with 14 points and had a strong rebounding game. Malone Pearson was also a standout as she was a force playing great defense and scoring 8 points.

Jessie Meylor and Kaila Ponce also had great defensive games with Meylor scoring 6 points as well. Raquel Addessi, Michelle Whiting and Ponce rounded out the offense with 2 points apiece.

IIn an earlier game, Magnolia’s 7th grade clipped Forest Lake, 25-23 with Whiting sinking 11 points and Pearson and Meylor contributing eight and six points respectively.

Union Hill, FLC Split – Union Hill and Forest Lake split a pair of NCAL games recently.

In the 7th grade game, Forest Lake produced a 34-14 decision. Meanwhile, in the 8th grade game, Lauren Mickel erupted for 26 points in a 58-10 Union Hill win. Janette Williams added 10 points to the winning Bearcat cause.
