Lady Rattlers Escape PV Scare In OT

In what may go down as the “Game of the Year” in the Nevada County Athletic League ‘s girls basketball race, Magnolia’s Lady Rattlers came up with a clutch free throw in the waning seconds of regulation and then went on to score a 39-30 overtime win over Pleasant Valley.

Playing at Magnolia Thursday, the visiting Vikings held a 30-29 lead with just six seconds left in regulation. However, Cindy Solomon of Magnolia stole a PV inbounds pass and in the process was fouled.

Solomon then bagged one of two free tosses to knot the count at 30-30 and force the overtime.

In the extra session it was all Magnolia as the hosts outscored the Vikings, 9-1 including six big free throws that iced the issue.

Sara Schell’s 15 points and 11 from Sarah Hager topped the Lady Rattlers offense. Magnolia, now 14-0 on the season and 11-0 in NCAL play, also received heady efforts from Savannah Welz and Olivia Konttlinen.

Magnolia wraps up its regular season Monday at Union Hill.

Weimar Hills 7th 41 Forest Lake 6 – Lindsey Biles and Kylie Kirkland sparked the offense as the Lady Warriors’ 7th grade improved to 8-3 in NCAL action.

Evie Sweet also contributed a strong defensive game for the Lady Warriors who play at Seven Hills on Monday.

Union Hill 7th 39 Seven Hills 2 – Union Hill’s 7th grade team wrapped up the outright regular season NCAL crown and secured the upcoming tournament No. 1 seed with the win over Seven Hills.

Solid all-around play from Lindsay Meyer, Annie Aguilar, Ella Corbett and Janette Williams supported high scorers Katie Johnson (8 points), Lauren Mickel (7 points), Erin Selleck (5 points) and Dalas Albano who netted a three-point hoop.
