Nevada City Dodgers, Indians open TOC With Wins
It didn’t take long fort the “Upset Bug” to rise up and bite a favorite team in the District 11 Little League Tournament of Champions. In Friday night’s opening TOC majors division game at the Bear River Little League Complex, the Penn Valley Nationals, the PVLL’s “A” team suffered a stunning 15-5 setback to the Nevada City Dodgers, the NCLL’s “B” team. The Nationals had entered the tournament with high hopes and were coming off of a strong finish to the regular season. In addition, the team had already posted a win over its Nevada City opponent earlier this year. Things even looked brighter for the Nationals when they jumped off to a quick 5-0 lead after one inning on play but that’s before the Dodgers’ Joe Souza got warmed up. Souza pitched five strong innings to nail down the mound win and also aided his own cause by belting a pair of home runs. The win now moves the Dodgers into Monday’s second round winner’s bracket action against the Bear River Giants. Game time is at 7:30 p.m. In the evening’s second game, Garrett O’Callaghan was sharp on the hill as the southpaw helped pitch the Nevada City Indians to a 13--3 win over the Sierra Foothills Braves from Colfax. Thw win moves the Indians to Tuesday’s 5 p.m. winner’s bracket contest where they will play the winner of tonight’s 5 p.m. game between the Grass Valley A’s and the Penn Valley Dodgers |
