Ian Davis and Gareth Noxon teamed for three touchdowns Sunday in Auburn to help lift the Nevada Union Jr. Miners’ Jr. Midgets football team past Placer’s Jr. Hillmen, 24-14. Davis scored a pair of six-pointers on runs while Noxon hauled in a touchdown aerial. The game was one of three contests won by NU over Placer last weekend. In the Mighty Mites division, NU took a 13-7 win while Placer took a 32-6 victory in the Jr. Peewees game. NU’s Peewees, meanwhile, were also victorious over the Hillmen by a 14-6 count. In the final game of the five-contest matchup between the two programs, Placer and Nevada Union’s Midgets played a high scoring game under the lights Friday night at Le Febvre Stadium with Placer prevailing, 56-38. Getting back to the Jr. Midgets game, NU quarterbacks Jason Murray and Tanner Reynolds directed a strong offensive game for the Jr. Miners as running backs Davis, Johnny Callas, Mo Nieves, Brandon Lopez, Michael Tipton and Tanner Walsh all had good games. Meanwhile, on defense, it was Chase Federmeyer, Elliot Roberts, Brandon Lopez, Noxon, Callas and Tipton coming up with the big stops. Nevada Union returns home Saturday for a Sierra Youth Football Conference match-up with the Antelope Jr. Titans. Game times are 9 a.m. for the Mighty Mites, 11 a.m. Jr. Peewees; 1 p.m. Peewee; 3 p.m. Jr. Midgets and 5 p.m. Midgets.
