Nevada City Tops Bear River

In 11-year-old tourney opener

Nevada City’s 11-year-old All-Stars scored all of their runs early and then rode the pitching of Julian Belluomini to post a District 11 Area II tournament opening 9-2 win over Bear River Friday night at Penn Valley.

With the Nevada City crew plating all of their runs in its first two at-bats, the team turned to Belluomini on the hill and he responded by fanning six batters in five plus innings of work.

Nevada City was led at the plate by Michael Sekerak, who paired hits and drove in a pair of runs. Belluomini also aided his own cause by ripping a triple and scoring a run.

Jake DePass went 2x3 for Bear River in the contest.

Nevada City was scheduled to move into Tuesday night’s winner’s bracket game against Penn Valley, which posted a 15-5 rout of Grass Valley in its first game.

Game time Tuesday is slated for 5:30 p.m. at Penn Valley.
