May 13, 2009 PV Dodgers, BR Astros In Romps The Penn Valley Dodgers and Bear River Astros both chalked up impressive District 11 Little League major division baseball wins last week. The Dodgers, receiving home run power from George Olson and fine hurling from Jonathan Finau, blasted the Grass Valley A’s 11-2. Meanwhile, the Astros, rebounded from their first setback of the season to whip the Nevada City Giants,13-0, and improve their season record to a fine 11-1. Here’s a recap of the two impressive wins: PV Dodgers 11 Grass Valley A’s 2 – Olson crashed his home run in the third inning and Finau fanned eight A’s in only three frames of work to highlight the win. Jesse Donohue and Dalton Maxwell both added doubles for the winners while Matt Lane and Logan Kerley added two raps each. On defense, Grae Golightly at third base, Lane at catcher and David Mateos all had strong outings. Bear River Astros 13 Nevada City Giants 0 – Tyler Toft tossed a four-inning one-hitter with five strikeouts and no walks and Ryan Ferrell had a nifty “web gem” in centerfield as the Astros rolled to victory. The big hitters for the winners included Brett Soloman, Kyle Soria, Matt Lopez, Donald Brennan and Kody Kennedy, all with two hits apiece. Soria and Brennan spiced their nights for the Astros with respective home runs. Brennan also tagged a three-base hit. |
