PV Junior Giants Improve To 8-1
The Penn Valley Giants’ Jr. Division Little League team captured three wins over the past week to improve their District 11 record to 8-1. Here’s a recap of the team’s recent action:
PV Giants 10 PV Mets 6 – It was a come from behind victory for the Giants has Travis Hansen came in to hurl four and one-third strong frames of relief work to get the win.
Hansen scattered six hits and allowed just one run while fanning six.Kyle Yokom started the contest and fired the first three innings allowing 5 runs on three hits, 2 walks and 1 strikeout
.Hansen also sparked a big Giant-sized effort at the plate by going 4 for 5 with 3 RBIs while teammates Rhys Lyckberg was 2x2 and Dakota Crider 2x3 with 2 RBIs and 3 stolen bases.
Also adding offense were Jakob Freele who was 2x4, Jared Cook 1x3 with two RBIs, Benito Lozada who added a 2 RBI hit and TannerVallejo chipped in for a hit.
For the PV Mets, Kyle Cota was 2x4, Clay Coon 2x4, and Colton Peeler, 2x4. John Henry and John Swanton both added doubles while Beau Depois added a single.
PV Junior Giants 9 Nevada City Giants 7 – In a tight see-saw battle, the Penn Valley Giants besteed their Nevada City counterparts by a 9-7 count.
On the mound for the PV Giants Tanner Vallejo worked an inning and on third before giving way to Jared Cook who took over and went the rest of the way allowing 3 walks, 8 strikeouts, 4 runs on 7 hits.
For Nevada City, Ryan McCarthy pitched 4 innings with 6walks, 9 strike outs, while allowing 4 runs on 4 hits. Zack White finished the game with 2 walks, 4 strikeouts and allowing 5 runs on 3 hits.
Leading the PV Giants’ attack on offense was Cook who was 2x3 with a pair of triples and 4 RBI's. Tanner Vallejo added a 2x4 game with 1RBI while Travis Hansen was 1x3with a double and 2 RBIs and Andrew Cummings 1 for 2 with a RBI. Jakob Freele also added a hit.
Nevada City was led by McCarthy who went 2x4 with a double and 2 RBI's. Meanwhile, Cayman Morgan was 2x4. Zack White also added a double with 1 RBI to pace NC. Dillon Congor. A Seivart, and Carpenter chipped inwith a hit apiece.
On defense, Cook turned in a 1-2-3 double play with Travis Hansen and Tanner Vallejo with bases loaded to end the game.
PV Junior Giants 13 Sierra Foothills Giants 3 – The Penn Valley Giants banged out 18 hits to power their way past the Colfax team.
Travis Hansen was a perfect 5x5 with a pair of two bag hits and three RBIs to pace the win.Jakob Freele added a 4x5 game with 4 RBI's while Jared Cook was 2x3 with 2 RBIs and Dakota Crider 2x3.
Ross Hart and Ross Frank both contributed doubles to the winning cause while Rhys Lyckberg, Tanner Vallejo, Alex Voboril and Benito Lozada also hit safely with one rap apiece.
Jakob Freele fired two key innings on the hill to get the win with great defense behind him provided by Travis Hansen, Andrew Cummings, Kyle Yokom, Jacob Freele, Alex Voboril, Tanner Vallejo and Ross Hart.
