June 11, 2009 PV Dodgers clip BR Dodgers, 2-1 Jonathan Finau’s two–run home run over the left field fence was the margin of victory in recent District 11 Little League major division action as the Penn Valley Dodgers escaped with a 2-1 win over the Bear River Dodgers. Finau’s home run preserved a fine pitching effort by Penn Valley hurlers George Olson and Jimmy Fowler. Olson, the starter, fanned five batters in three innings before Fowler closed the game with two more whiffs. Dalton Maxwell with three hits, Fowler with two more including a double and another rip by Finau paced the Penn Valley offense. Also hitting for the winners were Olson, Matthew Lane, Logan Kerley and David Mateos. Perfect bunts were also laid down by Lane and Steven McClenthen. On defense, Donohue snagged a well hit ball to right field for an out while in the infield Dalton Maxwell and Logan Kerley turned in nifty plays. In the critical 6th inning, 2nd baseman Steven McClenthen connected to Finau at first base for the first out before Fowler came through with the final two outs by handling ground balls. |
