Panthers Rule at UH

Panthers clips Loomis for tourney title

 

Penryn School’s 8th grade boys basketball team had to overcome a pair of fellow Sierra Foothill League opponents on its way to winning last weekend’s Bearcat Classic tournament held at Union Hill School in Grass Valley.

The Panthers opened the tournament with a 65-31 rout of the host Bearcats before topping league rival Newcastle, 38-29, in the semi-finals.

In the championship tilt, Penryn then outlasted fellow SFL foe Loomis, 53-50.

All-tournament selection Trevor Pistochini led the win over Union Hill in the opening round as he bucketed 20 points. Teammate Skylar Rand followed in the scoring column with 15 points.

In the defensive-minded win over Newcastle, Pistochini’s 12 points and 11 from 7th grader Kyle Setterlund paced the Panther s over the Knights. Penryn held a 15-12 lead at halftime in the contest.

The championship contest between Penryn and Loomis was an entertaing affair with Pistochini’s 20 markers and 13 from Setterlund guiding the way.

Aaron Freeman’s 14 points and 12 from Tyler Noah led Loomis.
