Rattler 8th grade girls hold off Weimar Hills

In a match up of two undefeated Nevada County Athletic League girls 8th grade basketball teams Tuesday afternoon, host Magnolia used a fourth quarter surge to ease past Weimar Hills, 41-37.

The game saw Magnolia jump out to a 13-8 lead after a quarter and maintain their margin to 23-18 at halftime before Weimar Hills rallied behind the play of  Iona Lofrano and Mariah Turcotte to take the lead in the third quarter of action.

However, a key three-point play by Magnolia’s Jenn Meylor pushed the Rattlers back in front and they were able to keep the lead the rest of the way.

Both Meylor and Janelle Jensen tallied 12 points apiece for the Rattlers who improved their record to 4-0 on the season.

Magnolia received more scoring balance from Brenna Klauer with nine points, Breanna Gatto with five and Allie Cope with four.

In the 7th grade game, Magnolia used a big third quarter to pull away to a 37-19 win.
