Sept. 22, 2011 Big Wins For Lady Rattlers
The 8th Grade Magnolia Lady Rattlers have a 3-0 record so far this season. In the latest matchup vs. rival Weimar Hills, the girls impressed with a suffocating half court defense. Savannah Wirth, calm and cool at the point, controlled the Rattler offense. Caitie Breazeale was on fire with 18 points, before being sidelined with a knee injury during the fourth quarter. But it was Gwendolyn Lundy's ability to score in the first half that gave the Rattlers the burst they needed for the night, giving her 10 points in the books. Newcomer Nerissa Long had monster minutes, clogging up the middle and providing relief when the Rattlers got into a bit of foul trouble early on. As well, Melanie Jenkins welcomed the task of guarding the Warriors top shooting guard. Equally exciting was the wall Kaely Rath created in the paint with her 9 blocked shots! Rath struggled offensively, but chipped in 4 points during critical moments. Claire Hopper and Kaitlyn Solomon saw minutes for the evening, as well.
Magolia 7th Now 5-0 - The 7th Magnolia Grade Lady Rattlers improved to 5-0 on the season with a win over Forest Lake 24-7. Summer Brown and Ashley Albee led all scorers with 10 and 8 points apiece. Kayley Szabo, Becca Solomon, and Alyssa Pulkinghorn each had 2 points. In an earlier contest, the Magnolia Lady Rattlers topped visiting Seven Hills, 34-20. The Rattlers were led offensively by Summer Brown with 12 points. Kaity Nat and Ashley Albee scored 6 points apiece.
