Rocklin teams win TOC titles
Rocklin’s Rangers and Orioles made it a clean sweep by walking off with top honors in the respective major and junior division District 11 Tournament of Champions, which wrapped up last week. In the majors division, the Bear River Giants ran out of gas in the third game of a best of three series with the Rocklin Rangers and ended up on the short end on a 19-1 setback. The Rangers banged out 12 hits and blasted five home runs. The Rocklin squad settled the issue early with a pair of homers, which led to seven first inning runs and then added eight more tallies in the second. The lopsided outcome between the Rangers and Giants was somewhat surprising as only two runs had separated the two squads in their first two championship series games. The junior division finale between the Rocklin Orioles and the Bear River Yankees was a hard fought affair that the Orioles pulled out with two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning. Michael Lucas, Zach Welz, Cole White, Kevin Botsford and C.J. Weaver all played well for the Yankees who finished a fine season with a record of 23-1-1. |
